Force Ministries: A Real Website

[ No, this is not a parody; this is a real Christian website banner image ]
“From the days of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven has been forcefully advancing, and forceful men lay hold of it” — Matthew 11:12
[ Sadly this is not some piece of biblical text I found to make this image and website look worse; it's actually the text they chose themselves to market their site. ]
I’m constantly astounded by the Christian fixation on the exertion of power, which, in a modern and civil society materializes as law enforcement. It’s a common fetish among the saved. Look at this image; it’s designed to appeal simultaneously two two different things:
- A feeling of “I’m right, I’m cool, and I’ll kill you.”–which is a deeply male, primal and ugly thing–yet admittedly very attractive.
- A feeling that it’s ok to experience #1 since it’s for God.
This is a sickening and harmful combination. Question: what does the average user of this website think is going to happen when that soldier pulls the trigger? Yes, someone is going to die.
But hey, God works in mysterious ways. Sometimes he heals the sick, and sometimes he motivates people to dawn camouflage and kill people at range with assault rifles.
Who are we to judge, right?
Well, my answer is that we are humanists, and that’s what gives us the right. ::
