  4. I still say it’s a bit of a stretch. the U in GNU sounds nothing like a long o.

    It does, however sound like the “ew” in new (or “knew”). I think “If only I GNU what I know now” is much better, despite the fact that it’s possibly bad grammar. The extra “guh” sound allows geeks to get it when you say it (thus it doesn’t have to be written).

  6. Steve, that helps nothing. As a matter of fact, that goes from “possibly bad grammar” to “definitely horrible grammar”.

    To be grammatically correct, you have to say “I wish I would have known then what I know now”, but then you would have no place to put GNU in there.
