Warren Buffet Supports Obama: Why Don’t You?

Warren Buffet — probably the most successful investor in history and one of the richest men in the world — is behind Obama for President.

Attention Smart Republicans: There’s a reason Warren Buffet is for Obama. There’s a reason he thinks Obama is best for America. You must realize that it’s not an arbitrary thing for him to back a presidential candidate. Buffet isn’t an arbitrary type of guy.

Think about what Buffet is good at. Think about where his expertise is. He’s a master of analyzing situations and making sound judgements about the future. Don’t you see the similarity between investment savvy and the ability to assess what our country needs in a leader?

I’m not saying it’s impossible to differ with Buffet about who’s best for the country and be right. I’m just asking you to consider the odds.

Quite simply, if you and Warren Buffet disagree on who should lead our country, which one of you needs to re-evaluate things? Warren Buffet, or you?

Great post. Great point. This is definitely an endorsement that the Obama campaign should play up during the general election.

It's interesting to note that Buffet endorsed Gore and Kerry in the last two presidential elections. Hardly a tree-hugging hippie, he's concerned with responsible fiscal policy. Despite being a long-time Clinton supporter, his endorsement of Obama speaks volumes.

I wasn't promoting giving up your own opinion; I was promoting the idea of re-evaluating why you didn't come to the same conclusion as Buffet. There's a big difference.

To put it another way, both data and judgement go into making a big decision like this, and those decisions should always still be made independently. But the question is, which of those do you as a voter think you're superior to Buffet on? The information you have available to you to make your decision? Or your ability to properly make the decision with the data?

And if you don't think you're better off in one or both of those areas, and you differ with Buffet, could it be because HE has better information or better judgement?

So the idea isn't, "Forget about why Buffet chose Obama and just pick him because Buffet did." That's stupid. The idea is to seek out the reasons that Buffet went with Obama, and then re-evaluate your own decision within that new context.

Thanks for asking the question, though. It's good that this is clarified.

Just because someone is qualified to make decisions in a particular field, doesn't mean they're automatically qualified to make decisions outside of their field. I have no doubt Warren Buffet is smarter than me when it comes to investing and financial analysis, but I would never let him run a software project. Likewise, while I respect his right to his own political opinions, his success in the financial world does not automatically make him right in the political world. This is an "appeal to authority" fallacy.

Uhhhh, Buffet is a master at making money and has become the richest man in the world by consolidating wealth. I have no doubt an Obama presidency would be lucrative for Buffet. Do you people even stop and think about this shit?

You might want to research Warren a little bit before you soundly dismiss his motivations and whether they would benefit you. Warren has a history of saying he, along with other rich people, don't pay enough taxes and aren't holding up their end of the social contract. He also supports a more fiscally responsible US spending policy, which is very important for several reasons. Doing this doesn't mean cutting social programs. There is much defense and pork barrel spending that can be cut.

In that case we can just have him choose our leaders every year. Even better, we can have a table of three and put his buddy Rothschild, and Rockerfeller. You know Buffett took Schwarzenegger to go see Rothschild before he won governorship. So they do have a knack for picking. I love this idea, we can all give up our right to vote so these guys can make the right decision. They are of course smarter than us since they made so much money.

Think about what you're saying. Buffet makes money when stocks go up. A good economy makes stocks go up. Isn't a good economy beneficial to all of us as well as Buffet.

Yes. I believe Mr. Buffet is in a better position than I am to make a decision on who si better for our country as president. I very much like the idea that he is not happy about the present tax code which is beneficial for the super wealthy. They pay around %17 per cent on their income tax while you and I pay around %30! Don't just take my word on this! Check it out! It is all over the internet!

Rip - Are you kidding? Warren Buffet is probably the richest man in the world and you say he has no instinct for investing? Sure would like to see meet your portfolio manager. Perhaps you invested with Lehman Bros.

Besides being an incredible investor, Warren appears to be quite an incredible man if you look at how he lives his life.

-One of the richest men in the world but still lives in the small $300K house he bought when he got married.
-drives a buick
-orders hambergers when invited to a top restaurant.
-currently giving away his fortune (billions) to charities
-pledges to give it all away.

He doesn't live for flash, glory, or self interest, he just likes to do the best he can. I'm not saying you need to vote how he does, but I do not think his endorsement of Obama is for "selfish reasons" and "personal greed".

You might want to commend the man for being willing to endorse someone who will cost him hundreds of millions in cap gains tax and income tax, but who he feels will be best for the country. If all the wealthy people looked out for you like that you'd probably be better off.

By the way I'm a Republican who has never voted for a Dem and I'm voting for Obama even though it will cost me lots of money (I'm one of the lucky people in the top 5% of income that will get a tax increase under Obama--the 95% other will get a tax cut on my back).

Great Post, Griffin. I saw the Charlie Rose Show, and was shocked when Buffett said that he thought his taxes should be increased. He said his cleaning lady paid a higher tax rate than him, and that was wrong. He also questioned why making money on stocks should be taxed less than labor. Pretty amazing man! Doesn't look like greed to me that he supports Obama.

buffet is a hypocrit who can say such things because he is already rich.
however, he wants to tax your income and your inheritance such that you can never become as rich as he, nor even just moderately rich.
